HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team continued preparations for this Saturday's season opener against Tennessee-Martin, today, at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The practice, featuring the Golden Eagles in full pads, lasted approximately two hours, followed by conditioning.
"It's going alright," Head Coach Jeff Bower said after practice. "We're still making too many mental errors. I wasn't really happy with practice today. We had mental errors, and we didn't run around like we needed."
When asked about the effort of C.J. Bailey, who is slated to start at defensive back for the Golden Eagles, Bower noted that the Moss Point, Miss., native is working hard and using his natural ability to stay at the top spot.
"He came in and worked hard during his off time last year," Bower added. "He's been a good playmaker for us. He's a smart guy and has good football instincts along with good ability. I'm a little surprised that he bounced back this quick. You have to give him a lot of credit, because he worked hard to get where he is."
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at "The Rock."
