HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss took advantage of some cloud cover that hovered over the Joe P. Park Practice Facility for a good portion of practice here, Thursday morning, as they went through a two hour, 15 minute workout in full pads.
The break in the weather helped the Golden Eagles hold a brisk, upbeat workout which marked their 15th practice session of fall preseason camp.
The Golden Eagles continued to make strides on the offensive side and Bower sees that unit progressing as they work on their preparations for the Sept. 1, season opener against Tennessee-Martin.
"The offense continues to improve," Bower said. "It's coming along, slowly. Our timing, though, is better as well as our throwing and catching, and we have had fewer missed assignments."
Senior quarterback Jeremy Young (Jackson, Miss.) ran the offense for the Golden Eagles last season and will be looked upon to lead the offense again in 2007. Bower was asked after practice if there is any extra pressure on Young now that he is a senior and has held that position for a year.
"He understands (the expectations)," Bower said of Young. "A quarterback has to make plays for you. The guy comes out and works hard, studies the game and he is going to be fine. You will see a more confident quarterback, who will have a good year. "
One offensive player that continues to impress the Golden Eagle staff is redshirt freshman wide receiver Johdrick Morris (Baton Rouge, La.).
"He is going to play a lot for us," Bower said.
The Golden Eagles return to the practice field, Friday, with their fourth two-a-day schedule with their final preparations for Saturday morning's scrimmage.
