Lady Eagle Volleyball Releases 2007 Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Head Women's Volleyball Coach Ricci Luyties, today, released the 2007 schedule that features Final Four participant, UCLA, and 10 home matches.
The schedule also includes 16 Conference USA matches, as well as 15 non-conference matches, against Cincinnati, Maryland, Oakland, William and Mary, UC-Irvine, Centenary, Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, Nicholls State, Alabama A&M, Southern University, Alabama State and Mississippi Valley State. Southern Miss competes in four tournaments, including the Cincinnati Tournament to open the season, Louisiana Tech Tournament, UC-Irvine Tournament and the Alabama State Tournament.
The Lady Eagles open the regular season, Aug. 24-25 at the Cincinnati Tournament, before traveling to the Louisiana Tech Tournament, Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Southern Miss opens its home season against Alcorn State, Sept. 4, before traveling to the UC-Irvine Tournament, Sept. 7-8. The Golden Eagles will host Nicholls State, Sept. 11, before playing in their fourth tournament of the season at Alabama State, Sept. 14-15. Southern Miss concludes non-conference play at Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 18.
Southern Miss opens Conference USA play, Sept. 21, against Rice at home, then travels to Houston to play Houston, Sept. 23. The Golden Eagles host Marshall and East Carolina in a weekend series, Sept. 28 and 30, followed by matches at Memphis and UAB, host SMU and Tulsa, travel to UTEP and Tulane, returning home to play Memphis and UAB for the second time. The Golden Eagles will play three of their last four matches on the road, beginning at Marshall, then East Carolina and UCF. Southern Miss will close out its home schedule against UCF.
"I believe we will get tested early in the preseason," Luyties said. "We start the season at Cincinnati's tournament, which is a Top 25 team and then we play in the UC-Irvine Tournament and play UCLA, who finished the season ranked No. 2.
"Our conference schedule will be tough from top to bottom. Each team returns a great deal of talent because no one lost any one because of the senior class. This season will definitely be competitive."
Regular season concludes with the C-USA Volleyball Tournament, Nov. 15-19, in Huntington, W. Va.
