During the 2007 NFL Europa season, SouthernMiss.com will bring you exclusive insight into former Golden Eagle football player Jeremy Parquet's travels overseas as a member of the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa as he checks in weekly with former Southern Miss alumni, Joe Trahan, who will also be in Germany covering the team and Parquet.
Sorry for the blog delay, but last week we didn't have a blog because we were traveling to Germany. We left from Miami on Wednesday at about 2 p.m. and didn't get over here until Thursday morning about 9 a.m. From here on out we should have one every week though.
As far as the trip here, the flight from Miami to Frankfurt was nine hours and the flight from Frankfurt to Hamburg was about an hour, so we were flying for whole night. I am tired now because it's hard to adjust to the time change. Over here it's 1 p.m. and back at home it's 7 a.m., so it's been an adjustment trying to relate and talk to the people back at home.
Another adjustment has been the showers because they're really different! The shower curtain is two inches above the tub, and the towels aren't that big - but I'm not complaining. I haven't put the t.v. on because you can't watch it because it's all in German, but I didn't come over here to have too much fun. I came over here to get better playing football.
We took our first tour of the city of Hamburg today on our way to practice, and the city is built more like New York City, or like Cleveland. There are a lot of buildings built close together, there isn't as much greenery and it's gloomy outside like we're in Cleveland.
We've been here maybe two days or so and it's weird because I'm used to calling who I want to call when I want to call, but I didn't have a calling card the other day so I couldn't make that call. It's things like that that make it different here.
With football, we just had our first day of practice today and we're a little rusty, but we're off tomorrow for Easter. We'll start back at practice on Monday getting ready for the Cologne Centurions (April 14th on NFL Network). So I'd like to tell everybody at home Happy Easter, enjoy yourself and go to church!
