Softball Edges Tulsa, 3-2, in Game One

TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa right fielder Lauren Lindsay's fielding error in the third inning gave Southern Miss the go-ahead run in the Lady Eagles 3-2 game-one win, today, at the Donna J. Hardesty Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third when freshman designated hitter Megan Hill hit a fly ball to Lindsay, resulting in a fielding error and sending freshman first baseman Logan James home.
The Golden Hurricane answered back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs to cut the Lady Eagles lead to one. Catcher Christian Timmons led off, hitting a single up the middle, advancing to third on a double from right fielder Lauren Lindsay and scoring on a fielder's choice. Lindsay added the second run, crossing the plate when Sara Dyer grounded into a double play.
In the top of the second, freshman second baseman Lauren Castellvi put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard, hitting her fifth home run of the season. Later in the inning, senior right fielder Melissa Prouty singled up the middle to score sophomore catcher Kristin Pilgrim from second base, who was hit by a pitch before steeling second, and give Southern Miss the 2-0 lead.
Southern Miss (18-32; 8-9 C-USA) finished the contest with six hits, two from Prouty and one each from Castellvi, Pilgrim, Chaney and Alonzo, and stranded four runners.
Tulsa (26-25; 9-9 C-USA) also notched six hits, two each from Lindsay and Stephanie Chomicki and one each from Timmons and Kelli McGlasson, and left eight runners on base.
Samantha Davis (7-10) recorded the win for Southern Miss, striking out six batters and walking four, while Julie Fennell (9-9) was credited with the loss for Tulsa, striking out nine and walking one.
