During the 2007 NFL Europa season, SouthernMiss.com will bring you exclusive insight into former Golden Eagle football player Jeremy Parquet's travels overseas as a member of the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa as he checks in weekly with former Southern Miss alumni, Joe Trahan, who will also be in Germany covering the team and Parquet.
Weekly blog number five - Jeremy Parquet, signing in. I have a cold. I don't know how I got sick, but I've got a little head cold. I'll be alright though.
We had a game this past Sunday at Berlin against the Thunder in this beautiful stadium that's called Olympic Stadium, and I played against (former Southern Miss safety) Etric Pruitt. We won 16-7, and I'm very proud and excited about that. This next one coming up is a big one. We play at Frankfurt this Saturday against the Galaxy.
Frankfurt's supposed to be one of these big-time teams in the league, so it's a big game coming up Saturday. We've got to keep getting better and better to make this World Bowl.
My homeboy, WR Rashaun Woods (off of the reserve/injured list and onto the roster after arriving in Hamburg this week), is back, so we're going to the World Bowl now. He's from Oklahoma State and was a former first round draft pick (San Francisco 49ers). He was in Birmingham, Alabama rehabbing a bad hamstring, but he's back now, so that's another added weapon to our offense so we can start shining and start showing teams what's really going on over here.
The food out here - oh my goodness - is not where it's at, on the low. So when I come back to the `States, if I'm 285 pounds, I want y'all to get mad at me. The food here isn't terrible, but everything is fried and I'm not used to this. I tell you what, when I get back to the `States it's going down. Believe that! I'm going to grub tough when I get back!
What else can I say? It's been a good experience over here so far after three weeks or so of learning the customs and trying to pick up the German language a little bit here and there. I'm having a pretty good time over here in Hamburg, Germany meeting a whole bunch of good guys on the team from all over the country.
So like I said earlier, there's a game Saturday against Frankfurt and they're 2-0. They won it all last year - won the World Bowl. We need to smash them and come back home with a `W' and get this victory.
Other than that, ain't nothing shaking too much.
Y'all be cool. Till next time.
