Softball Splits Doubleheader with Ole Miss, 3-8, 9-8

OXFORD, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team claimed a 9-8 game-two victory over in-state rival Ole Miss, after falling 3-8 in game one, to split the midweek doubleheader, tonight, at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Golden Eagles recorded one run in the first and fourth innings, two in the fifth, four in the sixth and a final run in the seventh to down the Rebels in the final game.
In game one, Ole Miss tallied five runs in the first inning, two in the third and one in the fourth, exploding to an 8-3 win.
Southern Miss (16-29) finished the first contest with 12 hits, three from Jennifer Fox, two each from Kristin Pilgrim and Kristin Chaney and one each from Brandi Alonzo, Logan James, Megan Hill, Lauren Castellvi and Allison Bullard, while the Rebels recorded only eight.
Ole Miss (21-26) tallied 11 hits in game two, while the Golden Eagles notched nine, two each from Alonzo and Castellvi and one each from Fox, James, Hill, Brittany Wright and Chaney.
Freshman Megan Hill notched her 13th home run of the season during the fifth inning of the 9-8 win, to score Alonzo and give Southern Miss the lead.
Samantha Davis (5-8) received the win for Southern Miss, and Shea Naramore (9-20) was credited with the game-one loss.
Southern Miss returns to action this weekend, traveling to Birmingham, Ala., to face C-USA rival UAB in a three-game series.
