OXFORD, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team was shutout by Ole Miss 8-0, today, in the final competition of the Red and Blue Classic.
The Lady Rebels recorded two runs in the first inning, three in the second and three in the third to enforce the eight-run rule in the fifth inning.
In the first inning, Lauren Grill tripled down the right field line to score Emily Sarver from second base, before reaching home on Mary Jane Callahan's sacrifice fly.
Southern Miss (6-13) recorded two hits, one each from freshman Brittany Wright and junior Jennifer Fox, while Ole Miss (8-13) notched five hits.
Callahan (5-4) tallied six strikeouts for the win, and Shea Naramore (5-13) was credited with the loss. Sophomore Samantha Davis and junior Emily Howard also made appearances on the mound against the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Eagles return home on Wednesday, March 7, taking on Southeastern La. in a single game, beginning at 6 p.m.
