Memphis Downs Lady Eagles, 6-1, in First Meeting

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Memphis recorded 11 hits to down Southern Miss 6-1, in the first meeting, today, at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles recorded only four hits and left three runners on base, while Memphis stranded 12.
The Tigers notched two runs in the third inning to break the 1-1 tie, after both teams scored in the first inning. Leandrea Hines led off in the third inning, reaching first on a fielding error by third baseman Jennifer Fox, advancing to third on a double from Kara Ross and scoring on Bridgette McNulty's sacrifice fly. Ross advanced home for the final run of the inning when Kimberly Hayden singled to Samantha Davis.
Freshman Logan James got things started for the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the first, hitting a single through the left side and advancing to second on an error by the left fielder Hines. Karissa Jones executed a sacrifice bunt to send James the third, before Fox singled up the middle, scoring James and giving Southern Miss its only run of the game.
Memphis added another run in the fourth and two more in the seventh to clench the win.
Davis (1-7) was credited with the loss for Southern Miss (10-25, 1-6 C-USA), while Jenna Kubesch (13-5) received the win for Memphis (21-11, 3-4 C-USA).
