Lady Eagles Defeat Memphis, 6-3, to Split First Day

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team used a five-run first inning to down Memphis 6-3, and split the first day of play, today, at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
With the bases loaded, catcher Kristin Pilgrim singled, scoring Megan Hill and Jennifer Fox and sending Lauren Castellvi to third. On the next play, Ashlyn Harmon doubled to score Pilgrim and Castellvi. With runners on first and second, Melissa Prouty singled to score Harmon but was thrown out on the way to second.
The Lady Eagles added another run in the second inning for the 6-0 lead, when Fox singled to right center, scoring Logan James, who had reached first on a walk and sent to second on a sacrifice bunt from Karissa Jones.
Memphis recorded three runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead down to 6-3.
Southern Miss (11-25, 2-6 C-USA) finished the contest with six hits, one each from James, Jones, Fox, Pilgrim, Harmon and Prouty, while Memphis (21-12, 3-5 C-USA) recorded 11.
Shea Naramore (8-18) recorded her eighth win of the season, while Johnson fell to 8-7.
Conference USA action continues tomorrow at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
