McNeese Sweeps Lady Eagles with 2-1 Win

LAKE CHARLES, La. - McNeese State tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to down Southern Miss 2-1, tonight, and complete the sweep.
Brooke Brodhead led off the inning with a double to left center and was sent home for the go-ahead run on Rachael Phillips' double to left field. Phillips added the final run for the Cowgirls, reaching home on a single by Shayla Cormier.
Southern Miss fought back with one run in the top of the seventh. Freshman Logan James led off with a double to left field and advanced home on a double by freshman designated player Megan Hill. Hill reached third on a sacrifice bunt from junior Jennifer Fox, but the Lady Eagles couldn't record another run.
Shea Naramore (7-17) was credited with the loss for the Lady Eagles, recording only one strikeout and walking three Cowgirl batters. Jana Jones (4-6) was the winning pitcher, tallying five strikeouts and no walks.
Southern Miss (10-22) notched three hits in the game, one each from senior Melissa Prouty and freshmen Logan James and Megan Hill. McNeese (13-21) finished the contest with five hits.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 22, traveling to Lafayette, La., to take on Louisiana-Lafayette in a single game, beginning at 6 p.m.
