Lady Eagles Host South Alabama in Home Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Lady Eagle softball team will host the South Alabama Jaguars in its 2007 home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
The Lady Eagles enter the contest with a 1-4 overall record, following opening weekend in which they competed in the sixth annual Getterman Classic, hosted by Baylor. The contest will serve as the first game of the 2007 season for the Jaguars as well as the first game in the school's history. South Alabama is led in its inaugural season by Head Coach Becky Clark.
This will be the first of two meetings for the two teams this season, as Southern Miss is scheduled to travel to Mobile, Ala., on April 25 to compete against South Alabama for the second time.
So far this season, the Lady Eagles have recorded a collective batting average of .238, including 24 hits, six doubles, one triple, three home runs and 15 RBIs. On defense, Southern Miss is led by junior pitcher Shea Naramore, who has recorded a 10.12 ERA with eight strike outs. The team has combined for 11 errors and allowed 12-of-14 stolen bases.
Offensively, the Lady Eagles are led by freshman designated hitter Megan Hill, freshman outfielder Brandi Alonzo and junior outfielder Allison Bullard. Hill went 5-for-11 for a .455 batting average during opening weekend, including one double, one triple, one home run and three RBIs. Alonzo recorded four hits with one double, one home run and two RBIs for a .400 batting average. Bullard went 4-for-13 at the top of the lineup for Southern Miss, including one double and one RBI.
Southern Miss was picked to finish seventh in the regular season for Conference USA, while the Jaguars were picked to finish ninth in the Sun Belt Conference.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Lady Eagles return home on Feb. 20, to take on the Jackson State Tigers at 6 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
