HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Following his career-high 211-yard rushing game in a win at UTEP, Southern Miss sophomore running back Damion Fletcher has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Fletcher ran for a career-best 211 yards on 34 carries in the Golden Eagles 56-30 win at UTEP. His performance marked the first 200-plus yard rushing game by a Golden Eagle since Derrick Nix had 201 against Illinois on Sept. 7, 2002.
Fletcher tallied his seventh 100-yard rushing performance this season and he now has 14 in his career, tying Nix for the second most at the school. He added a career-high tying three rushing touchdowns, coming from one, three and 13 yards. Fletcher now has 14 rushing TDs this season, which ties him for third place on the school's single-season list with Sam Dejarnette (1982).
He collected the best first-half yard production of his career with 123 as it was the second time this season he has notched at least 100 yards in the opening half.
Memphis senior linebacker Jake Kasser, who had a career-high 13 tackles in the Tigers victory over UAB, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Special Teams recognition went to UCF freshman KR Khymest Williams, who opened the Knights' win at SMU with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
