Memphis Gets Past Southern Miss Volleyball Team, 3-1

The Southern Miss volleyball team lost Memphis in four games, 3-1, by the score of 30-18, 30-21, 25-30, 30-21.
Ashley Petrinec led the Lady Eagles (10-11, 1-4) with a double-double, 15 kills and 17 digs. She also recorded three service aces and three blocks. Maia Ivanova added 15 digs.
Memphis' Ashley Liford recorded a match-high 19 kills. Three other Lady Tigers recorded double-digit kills, including Sara Bury with 12, Lauren Thompson had 11 and Shelby Burton added 10. Liford, Bury and Thompson all posted double-doubles, adding 16, 12, and 12 digs, respectively.
Memphis (14-7, 3-2) pounded down 17 kills in game one with a .289 attack percentage for the 30-18 win. The Lady Tigers held the Eagles to .022 attack percentage. Southern Miss managed only eight kills in a 30-21 loss in game two.
The Golden Eagles took game three, 30-25, behind a team attack percentage of .349. Southern Miss tallied 17 kills with only two attack errors. Petrinec finished the game with six kills.
Memphis recorded 17 kills, while hitting .409 in taking game four, 30-21. There were three ties and one lead change. Southern Miss led 2-0, before Memphis used a 10-2 run to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Southern Miss returns to action on Sunday, traveling to UAB for a 1 p.m., match in Bartow Arena.
