Lady Eagle Softball Players Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Three Southern Miss softball players were recently named 2006-07 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athletes.
Kristin Chaney, Kristin Pilgrim and Ashlyn Harmon received the honor after finishing the 2006-07 academic year with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Chaney, who is currently working on a master's in sport coaching, joined the softball team after the conclusion of basketball season last year. She played in 32 games and started 26, while batting .236 with 13 hits, including four doubles and a triple. She tallied 5-of-7 stolen bases. Her GPA for the year was a 3.73.
Pilgrim, a forensic science major with an emphasis in administration of justice, played and started all 56 games at the catcher position. She finished the year with a .209 batting average with 31 hits, to go along with three doubles and a home run. Her GPA for the year was 3.57
Harmon, also a forensic science major with an emphasis in chemistry and biochemistry, was a key reserve, playing in 18 games with two hits and three runs batted in and added a GPA of 3.63.
