Throughout the 2006 Lady Eagle Volleyball season, each player will sit down for an interview with a member of the Southern Miss Athletic Media Relations staff to discuss what you want to know about Lady Eagle Volleyball and a little more. Can you dig it?
This week will feature junior middle blocker Morgan Johnson.
How do you feel about your performances so far this season? "I'm pleased with some things but I know there are a lot of things that I need to work on. I expect to get better because we're playing with people that we never played with before and we'll come together as a team."
What are your personal goals this year on the court? "I want to step up and be a leader not only vocally but to lead by example by blocking, hitting, serving, and playing defense better."
What do you feel you bring to the team? "I guess I bring a little fire or enthusiasm. I tend to be pretty vocal."
How would your teammates describe you? "They might say that I'm mean. I can be vicious sometimes because I'm very competitive. They would probably say that I'm a very competitive person."
Being an athlete, do you feel pressured to be successful in other aspects of your life as well? "I think that being an athlete gives you a lot of pressure from other people but most of all you put pressure on yourself. You want to succeed in everything you do and you've been taught that your whole life through athletics."
What made you want to pursue a degree in Sports Administration? "Obviously, I'm a sports fanatic. I was leaning toward not majoring in it but I decided that I have to have sports in my life. Sports are a part of me. I want to coach or have something to do with the administrative part of it to help other teams and other colleges."
Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows. "I don't have very much self confidence and I try to hide that."
Do you make it a point to attend other athletic events? "I like going to support everyone else because I know how much other teams, especially girls, come to support us. It's a really big deal for all of us to support each other."
Which superpower would you like to have? "I would like to be able to fly."
Where do you plan on going to start your career? "I would go anywhere. I'm looking into being a G.A. for a team. I would like to go the east coast around the North or South Carolina areas. My big dream would be to go to California and try to play beach volleyball."
If you could change one rule in volleyball, what would it be and why? "I would change the net calls. I would like to make it where there is not 'in the net'."
