Alumni Association Adds Eagle Landing at Virginia Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - An increasing number of ticket sales and rising enthusiasm for Southern Miss football have led The University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association to add a third Eagle Landing tailgating for Golden Eagle fans as they travel to road games in 2006.
The recently-added event will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, when the Golden Eagles visit Blacksburg, Va., to take on nationally-ranked Virginia Tech. The Eagle Landing will be held at the University Club on the Virginia Tech campus, approximately a 10-minute walk to Lane Stadium, beginning at 11 a.m. EST. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. EST. Golden Eagle fans are encouraged to park for the game then make their way to the Eagle Landing location.
The game will be the second against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for the Golden Eagles, who defeated N.C. State, 37-17, in Hattiesburg on Sept. 16.
"The Alumni Association and Athletic Department are looking forward to welcoming Golden Eagle fans to Blacksburg," said Jerry DeFatta, the Alumni Association's associate director for external affairs. "Following a strong start to the football season, alumni, friends and fans of Southern Miss have shown that enthusiasm for the football program is peaking. Ticket sales are strong, and more and more Golden Eagle fans are making the decision to follow the team on the road. Consequently, with the help of the Athletic Department, the Alumni Association has been able to add an Eagle Landing."
Menu for the event includes barbeque pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, cole slaw, cookies and brownies. Tickets are $5 per person.
The Association will also host an Eagle Landing prior to the Tulane game in New Orleans on Nov. 11. Previously, hundreds of Golden Eagle fans enjoyed the first Eagle Landing of the season on Sept. 2 in Gainesville, Fla.
