Southern Miss Volleyball Plays Third OF Fourth Home Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Lady Eagle volleyball team plays their third home match in a four-match homestand against UNO.
Southern Miss is coming off a 3-2 win against Troy. In that match, freshman Angela Hlavaty recorded 15 kills with no attack errors and hit .500. Amanda Huntoon tallied 10 kills. Maia Ivanova posted 14 digs and Ashley Petrinec had 11.
Petrinec continues to lead the team in kills with 150, a 2.78 per game average. Ivanova leads the team in digs with 222, a 4.11 per game average and in aces with 22. Hlavaty leads the team in attack percentage at .228 and Morgan Johnson leads the team in total blocks with 61. Cassie Lavery has recorded 314 assists.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.24 kills and 15.80 digs per game with an attack percentage of .157. Seven players have recorded 25 or more kills on the season, including three players over 100.
UNO comes into the match with a 14-3 record, following a 3-1 loss to UAB. Sophomore Dobrila Kovacevic recorded 16 kills in the match, while Lindsey Boler and Jessica Helgeson had 11 kills each. Helgeson also had nine blocks.
UNO has four players with over 100 kills, led by Hillary Carr with 149. Jayne Duncan leads the team in digs with 257. Jaci Bayley leads the team in assists with 483.
Head Dana Castillo Launey is in her second season as head coach, but her eight season with UNO. Launey returns all six starters from last year's team that got off to a 4-0 start before canceling the season because of Hurricane Katrina. The Privateers are averaging 15.44 kills and 17.06 digs per game with an attack percentage of .242.
Following the UNO match, Southern Miss concludes its homestand, hosting Tulsa at 7 p.m., on Sept. 22, and then travels to SMU, Sept. 24.
