Throughout the 2006 Lady Eagle Volleyball season, each player will sit down for an interview with a member of the Southern Miss Athletic Media Relations staff to discuss what you want to know about Lady Eagle Volleyball and a little more. Can you dig it?
This week will feature senior outside hitter Amanda Blunck.
How do you feel about the season so far? "Right now I've got that competitive edge. We'll see how things go as the season continues."
Which of your teammates do you think is going to have a breakout season and really help out the team? "I think that Amy is going to be a great standout player. She's young and she's impressed me so far so I think she's going to do very well."
If you weren't playing volleyball, what would you do with all of your extra time? "Either sleep or get a better part time job."
Which professional athlete serves as your role model? "I think that Michael Jordan is a great role model. I wish that little kids were walking around saying 'I want to be like Amanda'."
If you could change one rule in volleyball, what would it be? "Even though it benefits our team sometimes, I hate it when the other team serves the ball and it touches the net. I wish that if the ball touches the net on a serve it's a dead ball."
Explain to Southern Miss fans the importance of team chemistry. "If you don't have experience playing with each other, you don't know each other's habits, strong points, weak points and tendencies. You learn when you need to cover someone and help them out."
What does it mean to you to be a Golden Eagle? "There is a lot of pride in saying that you're a Golden Eagle."
Why Southern Miss? "I wanted to try something different."
Besides winning, what's most rewarding about being a collegiate volleyball player? "The friendships I've made."
Which superpower would you like to have? "I wish I could fly."
When did you start playing volleyball? "I played volleyball in my third grade gym class and my teacher asked me to play for the fourth grade."
What are your plans after graduation? "I have to do an internship for fashion merchandising but I don't know if I'm staying in Hattiesburg or not."
If you could design a volleyball uniform for your teammates consisting only of Victoria's Secret items, could you do it and what would it consist of? "I could definitely do that especially since they just came out with the Very Sexy sports bra. They also have spandex too. I think that their spandex would be cute with the Very Sexy sports bra. It would be something that's flattering but not too tight fitting."
What other sports did you play when you were younger? "I played basketball and track in high school, along with volleyball."
What made you choose to pursue volleyball? "I always had more of a love for volleyball than the other sports. The other sports just kept me in shape."
What made you want to come here all the way from Colorado? "I love the people here and I wanted to get away from the North and its cold weather. It's a completely different atmosphere."
Tell us something about yourself that no one else knows. "I used to show sheep in 4-H. Whenever I tell people that they look at me like I'm crazy but I grew up on a farm."
