Southern Miss Volleyball Travels To Nicholls State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Lady Eagle volleyball team plays its 11th match on the road when the Lady Eagles travel to Nicholls State for a 7 p.m., match on Sept. 13.
Southern Miss is coming off a 3-0 loss to Colorado in the Colorado Invitational. Mari Ruddick led Southern Miss with 11 kills and Maia Ivanova had 11 digs. Morgan Johnson recorded seven total blocks. Johnson earned all-tournament honors for her performance, finishing with 26 kills while hitting .413 with 16 total blocks. Ashley Petrinec, Angela Hlavaty, Stevi Cherry and Mari Ruddick tallied 20 or more kills in the tournament.
Petrinec continues to lead the team in kills with 127, a 3.10 per game average. Ivanova leads the team in digs with 184, a 4.49 per game average and in aces with 17. Johnson leads the team in attack percentage at .201 and total blocks with 39. Cassie Lavery has recorded 236 assists.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.43 kills and 16.74 digs per game with an attack percentage of .148. Seven players have recorded 25 or more kills on the season.
Nicholls State owns a 5-6 record, following a 3-1 win over UNC-Asheville. Senior Atina Porter recorded 33 kills in the match to go with 16 digs.
Porter leads the team in kills with 163 and blocks with 31. Enjoli Ford leads the team in digs with 121, while Amy Whitehead leads the team in assists with 358.
The Colonels are averaging 12.49 kills and 13.08 digs per game with an attack percentage of .153.
Following the Nicholls State match, Southern Miss returns home to open Conference USA play against UCF on Friday night and plays a non-conference match on Saturday against Troy.
