HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team practice for the first time as a full-unit today, holding a three-hour practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
"We felt like we had done a good job getting the freshmen and first-year guys into the routine," Bower said. "Practices are long, so it took away a few reps from the varsity, but at the same time we had a chance to work the other guys. We just moved it up a day."
The reason the full squad practice was moved up a day, had to do with the development of the newcomers in the first two days of practice.
"We felt like they were in good shape with the routine and drills," Bower said. "The new players have learned fast. It's a compliment to them."
Following practice, Bower also addressed the fact that the team has been injury free through three days of practice."
"Knock on wood," Bower said. "Let's hope it doesn't happen. Injuries were tough on us last year and hopefully we can stay away from that. I think if you condition and are in shape, the chance for injury is really reduced."
The team returns to the practice field at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday, with two-a-day practice starting on Thursday.
