HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss volleyball team continues its preseason workouts, conducting two-a-day sessions in preparation for the upcoming season.
Head Coach Ricci Luyties, who welcomed five letterwinners and nine newcomers for the 2006 season, looks to improve on last year's record of 6-19.
"I believe we have a lot of talented players this year," Luyties said. "We have been working hard during our two-a-days; however, we have sustained some minor injuries because we are not in top form yet, but we are fighting through that. We have a lot of new players not quite ready for what we are trying to do, but we are getting better every day that we play together."
Southern Miss will continue preseason workouts over the next week before opening competition at the Capital One Classic in Lafayette, La., on Aug. 25-26. The Golden Eagles will play Mississippi State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana in the round-robin event.
