HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Today marked the third two-a-day practice for the Golden Eagle football team, as it practiced in full pads during both two-hour sessions this morning and afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
"Practice went a lot better this afternoon than this morning," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "I wasn't pleased with this morning's practice. I thought we went through the motions. We picked it up this afternoon, got better and got some things done."
Bower continues to be concerned about injuries.
"We've got to get some guys healthy before Saturday's scrimmage," Bower said. "We've got a lot of things that aren't serious. This is the time where you have to play with some pain. This is not an easy time of the preseason, where you're going hard, a little sore and legs are heavy. You've got to go with some pain. We've got to get some guys stepping it up doing that."
Following practice Bower said that freshman offensive lineman Cameron Zipp sustained an injury in practice, and that junior offensive lineman Gary Jones is also out with injury. Travis Cooley (knee) was held out of this afternoon's practice. Bower also said that redshirt freshman Micah Brown has been moved to the center position.
The team returns to the practice field at 8:30 a.m., on Wednesday.
Fans that were unable to attend Saturday's FanFare at the Payne Center will have an opportunity to 'Meet The Eagles' on Saturday, August 19 from Noon until 1 p.m., following the team's practice in M.M. Roberts Stadium. This event is free of charge and players and the coaching staff will be available for autographs and pictures. Fans are asked to enter the stadium through Gate 8 or Gate 6 (north east & south east corners of M.M. Roberts Stadium).
Season tickets are still now on sale. Additional information on tickets or Eagle Club membership is available by contacting the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK, 601-266-5418, or online at www.SouthernMiss.com.
Southern Miss opens the season on Sept. 2, with a 5 p.m., contest at Florida.
