Volleyball Team Concludes Spring Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss volleyball team concluded its spring volleyball season, playing in its last tournament at Ole Miss. The team also competed in tournaments at Tulane and LSU.

According to Head Coach Ricci Luyties, the team accomplished a lot of positives during the spring workouts.

"We had a good spring season," Luyties said. "Even though we had only seven players for the most part and only six healthy players, we saw some good things. The players worked hard and improved in several areas."

Southern Miss returns seven letterwinners for the 2006 season, including three of the top offensive and defensive leaders from last season. The Lady Eagles return 65 percent of their offensive and 72 percent of their defense.

"We were proud of the way the team played," Assistant Coach Nicki Green said. "It was a long, hard spring just because of the number of players we had, but they put forth a good effort every time we played."
