HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team completed a two-hour practice Friday at the Joe P. Park Practice Fields.
The session, the 11th of the NCAA-mandated 15 practices allowed for the spring, was the final tune-up before Saturday's scrimmage, which will take place at M.M. Roberts Stadium at 12:30 p.m.
Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower is eagerly anticipating the players overall performances in the scrimmage, the final major scrimmage before the annual Black and Gold Spring Game on April 1.
"It's another important day," Bower said of the Saturday scrimmage. "You work all week to get ready, and we're just waiting to see how the players will perform."
There will be parts of Saturday's workout will be geared towards the special teams phase of the game.
"We're going to scrimmage the kicking game," Bower said. "It won't be a regular game type scrimmage, but we will put them in game-like situations."
Bower also said that the team remains hampered by injuries, causing the team to be "very thin at some positions". Included among the injured players that Bower announced were Ryan Watson (knee), Ryan Hebert (hamstring), and Robby D'Angelo (elbow).
The spring season culminates with the annual Black and Gold Spring Game, which is set for Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m.
