Softball Falls In Doubleheader To Troy

The Lady Eagle softball team dropped a doubleheader to Troy tonight, 3-0 and 7-4, on a chilly night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
With the losses, Southern Miss falls to 15-20, while Troy improves to 17-18.
In game one, Troy took a 1-0 lead in the third, on a RBI double by Jessica Lyle.
Southern Miss went hitless until the fifth inning, a single to center by Kristin Pilgrim, but did not get any runs across.
Troy extended its lead with two runs in the seventh, on a RBI single by Lyle, which scored pinch runner Amanda Ragans, before Angie Coteat scored on a fielding error by Allison Bullard in center on the single by Lyle.
The Lady Eagles got their second hit of the game in the seventh, a lead off single by Jennifer Fox, but again did not get any runs across.
Harcourt (8-9) got the win for Troy, allowing two hits, while walking two and striking out four.
Gros (9-10) took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs, two earned, walking eight and striking out four.
In game two, Troy took a 2-0 lead in the second, on the strength of a two-run home run by Felicia Hammer.
The Lady Trojans make the score 6-0 in the third, as four runs crossed the plate, all unearned. In the inning, Sally Jones had a two RBI double, which scored Brooke Powell and Lye, on base with a throwing error on Lady Eagle starter Samantha Davis and fielder's choice respectively. Brittany Krbec then reached on a fielding error by Butler, allowing Jones and Hammer, on base with a walk, to score.
Troy made the score 7-0 in the fourth, on a RBI double by Powell, which scored Caurie Miller, who walked with one out.
Southern Miss got its first run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, on a RBI single by Bullard that scored Jessica Huerta, on base thanks to a fielding error by Miller.
The Lady Eagles put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth, getting a two-out RBI double by Melissa Prouty, for her first double and RBIs of the season, making the score 7-3. Prouty then scored on a RBI single by Butler, who advanced to second on the throw home, to make the score 7-4.
But Butler was left stranded at second and despite a one-out single by Fox in the seventh, Southern Miss was unable to get closer, as it dropped the doubleheader.
Angela Lopez (7-4) got the win for Troy, allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, walking five and striking out five.
Samantha Davis (1-1) made her first career start tonight and took the loss, lasting 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and six runs, two earned, walking two. Krystal Crooks worked an inning in relief for Southern Miss, allowing a run and a hit, before Shea Naramore finished the game by tossing the final 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, striking out one.
Southern Miss returns to action this weekend, facing Conference USA newcomer UTEP in a three game series. Game times are set for 5 and 7 p.m., central time on Saturday, with the series finale at 12 p.m., on Sunday.
