Golden Eagle Tennis Loses To No. 43 Alabama, 6-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team managed a singles and doubles win in their 6-1 loss to No. 43 Alabama on Wednesday afternoon.
With their loss, Southern Miss fell to 3-10 (1-2 C-USA) while Alabama improved to 7-7 (1-3 SEC).
"We played well in singles today," Head Coach Teddy Viator said. "John Koti played especially well at No. 6 singles and earned a good win. As a team, we have to continue to compete. We were competitive today, but they were a little better than us."
After losing No. 1 doubles, with Joseph Jung and Mathieu Thibaudeau (ALA) defeating Marc Lux and Andrew Poole, 8-2, Southern Miss responded with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles as Domagoj Anic and Reid Bourgeois defeated Dan Buikema and Andrew Felsenthal (ALA) to tie the doubles competition at 1-1. With the doubles point on the line, Javier Bes and Jordie Kindervater (ALA) came through for the Crimson Tide, defeating Tommy Maestri and Dylan Mezey at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, to claim the overall victory in doubles.
Anic/Bourgeois improved their doubles record to a team-best 4-2 spring record, while the records of Lux/Poole (3-4) and Maestri/Mezey (1-2) fell with their losses.
In singles action, Alabama won every spot except for No. 6 singles where John Koti defeated Taylor Striplin (ALA), 6-4, 7-5.
No. 101 Jung (ALA) defeated Anic at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Bes (ALA) defeated Lux, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles. Thibaudeau (ALA) defeated Bourgeois at No. 3 singles, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5). Sammy Struyf (ALA) defeated Mezey at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Buikema (ALA) defeated Poole at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Koti improved his singles spring record to 2-4, while the spring records of Anic (4-8), Lux (3-10), Bourgeois (4-7), Mezey (4-9) and Poole (3-9) all fell with their losses.
Southern Miss returns to the court on Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. in Brookhaven, Miss. against Samford.
