Fletcher Named Freshman All-American by Scout.com

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss freshman running back Damion Fletcher (second team) was named Freshman All-Americans by Scout.com. This marks the third team that he was selected, along with The Sporting News and rivals.com.
Fletcher was named All-Conference USA first team on the coaches and media teams, the All-Conference USA Freshman team by the coaches and media and was a finalist for the Conerly Trophy, signifying the best player in the state of Mississippi.
Fletcher, Southern Miss' and Conference USA's freshman all-time rushing leader, has carried the ball 256 times for 1,330 yards, an average of 5.2 yards per carry and has scored nine touchdowns this season. He also has 15 catches for 114 yards. He has a school freshman-record seven 100-yard or more rushing yard performances and had a season-high 177 yards against NC State. He also rushed for three of the top 10 freshman rushing marks in the school's history and is second on the school's single-season rushing list.
The Golden Eagles, currently 8-5 overall, 6-2 in Conference USA and the C-USA East Division champions, were issued a bid to the GMAC Bowl on Friday night. Southern Miss will face Ohio University (9-4 overall, 7-1 Mid-American Conference East Division Champions) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.
