Volleyball's Petrinec Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss sophomore volleyball player Ashley Petrinec was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI first team Thursday. She will now receive consideration for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors.
Petrinec, who has played in all 30 matches, is second on the team in kills at 269, a 2.34 pre game average. She is fourth on the team in digs, and leads the team in double-doubles with seven (kills-digs). She recorded a season-high 22 kills against UL-Lafayette. Petrinec was named to the CapitalOne Classic and Sam Houston State all-tournament teams this season and has led the team in kills six times.
The Bloomington, Ill., native is majoring in mathematics and computer science with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She was a two-time President's List scholar and received the Conference USA Academic Medal.
Southern Miss, 15-15 overall and 6-8 in the league, closes out the regular season at home when the Golden Eagles host UAB and Memphis over the weekend.
