Black Out The Rock for the UAB Blazers

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Athletics has announced its affiliation with the Student Government Association (SGA) for the second annual "Black Out" T-shirt promotion.
The promotion will highlight the Golden Eagles' next home football game versus Conference USA opponent UAB on Saturday, November 18, and will coincide with SGA's Eaglepalooza and admission's Black & Gold Day. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be nationally broadcast on CSTV.
Approximately 4,500 shirts were sold last year for the "Black & Blue Bowl" versus rival Memphis, and generated more than $15,000 for the university's Hurricane Relief Fund.
"We are proud to partner with the SGA again this season given the success of last year's promotion," said Greg Herring, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Sales. "We hope to continue this newly established tradition and encourage fans to again take a one-game hiatus from the `GO GOLD' campaign and wear black to the game, to show their support for what the SGA is trying to accomplish."
The overwhelmingly successful "GO GOLD!" campaign has turned the crowds on game day into a sea of gold at The Rock and is also apparent throughout the Pine Belt and beyond. Southern Miss will continue to promote the campaign and will return to its "golden ways" when the Golden Eagles close out their season against the Thundering Herd of Marshall on Saturday, November 25.
The "Black Out" T-shirts and merchandise will be available in local retail outlets throughout Hattiesburg starting as early as Monday, November 6th. The price will vary from retailer to retailer, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting a philanthropy chosen by the SGA. The spirit shirts, designed for the upcoming football game against conference rival UAB, read "Black Out The Rock at Southern Miss, Golden Eagles vs. UAB Blazers, November 18, 2006." SGA and the athletic department are asking fans to wear the shirts on game day to "Black Out The Rock."
