Hlavaty Receives All-Freshman Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss freshman outside hitter Angela Hlavaty was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team, becoming the first Golden Eagle player to do so since 1998.
The Lincoln, Neb., native leads the team in kills with 317, a 2.79 per game average, and is third on the team in blocks. She has played in 31 matches, recording double-digit kills in 18. She has led the team in kills in eight matches.
The Lady Eagle volleyball team heads into the Conference USA Volleyball Championship seeded No. 9 and plays No. 8 seed SMU in a noon match at the Hofheinz Pavilion on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Tulsa is the top seed and will play the winner of the Southern Miss-SMU match on Friday at noon. Rounding out the tournament seeds, Marshall is the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 Memphis, No. 4 Tulane, No. 5 UAB, No. 6 East Carolina, No. 7 Houston, No. 10 Rice, No. 11 UTEP and No. 12 UCF.
Southern Miss is 15-17 overall and 6-10 in league play, after a 3-0 loss to Memphis last Sunday. Mari Ruddick recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs.
Hlavaty continues to lead the team in kills with 317, a 2.78 per game average. Ivanova leads the team in digs with 485, a 4.01 per game average and in aces with 53. Ruddick leads the team in attack percentage at .231 and Amanda Huntoon leads the team in total blocks with 115. Cassie Lavery has recorded 800 assists.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.29 kills and 15.45 digs per game with an attack percentage of .170. Eight players have recorded 100 or more kills on the season with four players topping the 200 mark.
SMU comes into the tournament with a 16-14 overall record and 7-9 in league play, following a 3-2 win over Rice. Rachel Giubilato leads the team in kills with 543 with Caitlin Rainbird next with 402. Stefanie Kons leads the team with 994 assists. Candice Davis leads the team with 488 digs.
As a team, the Mustangs are averaging 13.54 kills and 16.66 digs per game with an attack percentage of .220. Four players have 200 or more kills on the season, including two with 300 or more.
