Volleyball Team Loses To Memphis In Three, 3-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss' Mari Ruddick recorded her first double-double of the season, tallying 10 kills and 14 digs in a 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-19) loss to Memphis on Sunday afternoon.
Southern Miss dropped to 15-17 overall and 6-10 heading into the Conference USA Volleyball Championship, Nov. 16-19 in Houston, Texas. Memphis improved to 25-7 and 11-5, securing a top four seed.
Memphis Ashley Liford led the Tigers with 15 kills with Sarah Bury chipping in 10 kills. Christen Clayton recorded 13 digs.
Southern Miss jumped out early 3-2 lead only to see its lead vanish on a 5-1 run by Memphis. Southern Miss then scored three straight points, tying the game at 7-7. From there, Memphis outscored Southern Miss 10-4, taking the lead for good. Memphis won game one, 30-21.
Memphis popped out to 7-3 before Southern Miss used a 9-4 to take a 12-11 lead. From there, both teams battled back and forth until Memphis reeled off eight unanswered points, taking a 23-15 lead. Memphis took game two, 30-21.
Memphis led from start to finish in game three on its way to a 30-19 win. Memphis jumped to a 7-1 lead. The Golden Eagles cut the lead to two, 11-9, before Memphis pushed its lead to seven, 20-13.
Seniors Amanda Blunck and Nicole Rock played their final home match. Rock turned in solid performance, putting down nine kills with a .412 attack percentage.
Southern Miss heads into the tournament seeded No. 9 and will play No. 8 seed SMU on Thursday, Nov. 16.
