Southern Miss Volleyball Concludes Road Swing At Houston and Rice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Lady Eagle volleyball team concludes its four-match road swing, traveling to Houston on Friday and Rice on Sunday.
Southern Miss (9-9, 2-2) is coming off a 3-2 win at UCF last week. Four Golden Eagles recorded double-digit kills in that match. Maia Ivanova and Amanda Blunck combined for 48 digs. Ashley Petrinec and Morgan Johnson had 14 kills apiece. Blunck became the 11th player in volleyball history to record 1,000 digs in a career.
Petrinec continues to lead the team in kills with 188, a 2.72 per game average. Ivanova leads the team in digs with 291, a 4.22 per game average and in aces with 26. Hlavaty leads the team in attack percentage at .205 and Morgan Johnson leads the team in total blocks with 85. Cassie Lavery has recorded 415 assists.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.31 kills and 16.34 digs per game with an attack percentage of .163. Six players have recorded 100 or more kills on the season.
Houston comes into the match with a 12-8 record and 3-2 in the league, following a 3-2 loss at Rice. Justine Farmer recorded 31 kills and 20 digs in the match. Ashley Calhoun also had 29 digs.
Farmer leads the team with 309 kills for a 4.29 per game average. Calhoun leads the team with 281 digs and 29 aces. Krystal Schulle has 428 assists.
Head Coach Bill Walton is in his 21st season at Houston. As a team, the Cougars are averaging 15.01 kills and 17.64 digs per game with an attack percentage of .208. UCF has recorded 116 aces.
Rice is 9-10 and 2-3 following a 3-2 win against Houston. Natalie Bogan recorded 19 kills while Yvette Kirk had 34 digs.
Karyn Morgan leads the team with 278 kills while King leads the team in digs with 329. Rachel Lopez leads the team in assists with 847.
Head Coach Genny Volpe is in her third season at Rice. As a team, the Owls are averaging 14.00 kills and 17.86 digs per game with an attack percentage of .172. Four players have 200 or more digs on the season.
Following the Rice match, Southern Miss returns home to host East Carolina and Marshall on Oct. 13 and Oct. 15.
