HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagle football team completed preparations for Saturday's game against East Carolina, today, with an hour and a half practice in M.M. Roberts Stadium.
"I thought we had a good day of practice," Head Coach Jeff Bower said.
When asked about facing East Carolina's senior quarterback James Pinkney, Bower noted that the team has been working all week long, preparing for big plays.
"He's throwing the ball really well, and he's taking care of it," said Bower. "Anytime you throw 31-for-40 for 400 yards, that's something. We thought he threw well last year, but another year in the same system has made a difference. He's going to hurt you; he's pretty athletic."
Bower stated that freshman running back Damion Fletcher is expected to start Saturday against the Pirates, after missing the game against Virginia Tech last weekend due to arthroscopic surgery.
"Right now, we're planning on starting him," Bower added.
Bower also said that redshirt senior Travis Cooley is out for the game, and he is uncertain about the status of several other Golden Eagles.
"I'm not sure yet," claimed Bower. "There are some that I don't know about; Josh Barnes, LeVance Richmond (ankle), Robby D'Angelo (ankle) and Mitch Craft hurt his back. We'll have to wait and see."
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 6:30 p.m., at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
