Southern Miss opens C-USA at UCF

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team had to wait a few extra days to open Conferfence USA play after Hurricane Rita interrupted travel plans.
Southern Miss and UCF open its respective C-USA schedules on Tuesday. This is only the second meeting between the two teams with the Golden Eagles leading the 1-0 against UCF.
The Tulsa and SMU matches have been rescheduled for later in the season.
Southern Miss is coming off a 2-1 weekend, where the Lady Eagles finished second in the Jaguar Challenge. Ashley Petrinec and Stevi Cherry received all-tournament honors for their respective performances. Amanda Blunck posted a career-high 34 digs against North Florida. The loss to UNF snapped a three match win streak.
UCF also was scheduled to open its league play this weekend, playing at SMU on Friday and Tulsa on Sunday. UCF is 2-5 following a 3-1 loss against USF (9/16). Maina heming and Jana Mitchell lead the team with 71 and 70 kills, respectively. Katie Kohnen leads the team in digs.
Following the UCF match, Southern Miss hosts Memphis and UAB in a weekend series, Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.
