Softball's Davis Named Conference USA Hitter Of The Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss.? Southern Miss junior first baseman Ashley Davis was named Conference USA?s Hitter of the Week today.
This marks the second time this season that Davis has been selected for the award, as she also earned Hitter of the Week honors for the second time in her career, also earning the award on March 2.
Davis helped Southern Miss to a 4-1 record last week, finishing the week with a .462 batting average, 1.000 slugging percentage and .462 on-base percentage. She had six hits in the team?s weekend series at UAB, including one double, eight RBI and two home runs, one each in the team?s 7-3 and 7-2 victories on Saturday. Davis finished with four RBI in game two against the Blazers, tying a career-high for the third time.
The Chesapeake City, Md., native leads Southern miss with nine home runs, 39 RBI, 90 total bases and .549 slugging percentage this season, both of which are career highs. She ranks third on the squad with a .311 batting average and second with 51 hits and 10 doubles.
This marks the 31st time a Southern Miss player has been selected Conference USA Player of the Week. Since softball began Conference USA competition in 2000, Southern Miss has 15 pitchers of the week (7, 2000, 3, 2001, 3, 2002, 1, 2003 and 1, 2004) and 16 hitters of the week (5, 2000, 4, 2001, 1, 2002, 1, 2003, 3, 2004 and 2, 2005).
Southern Miss (26-29, 8-13) plays its final Conference USA series of the season this weekend, hosting East Carolina in a three-game series May 7-8. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m., on May 7, with the series finale at 1 p.m., on May 8.
