With the defeats, Southern Miss falls to 19-24, 5-9 in Conference
In game one, DePaul took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Dana Kenney led off the inning with a single and Ashley Parker followed with a single, advancing to second on a throwing error by Ashley Brenan, which allowed Kenney to score. Two batters later, Jessica Evans? RBI double scored Parker.
The Lady Blue Demons added two runs in the third. Following a groundout by Saskia Roberson, Sara Polansky walked and Evans followed with a two-run home run.
DePaul made the score 5-0 in the fourth, on a RBI fielder?s choice by Parker, which scored Sara Bandauski, who led off the inning with a single.
Southern Miss got two runs in the top of the fifth. After DePaul got two quick outs, Brenan singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by Linda Secka. Jessica Huerta followed with her third home run of the season, to make the score 5-2.
But DePaul added a single run in the bottom of the fifth, on a RBI sacrifice fly by Bandauski, before adding three runs in the sixth off a home run by Secka to put the game out of reach.
Tracie Adix (12-3) got the win for DePaul, pitching six innings, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out two.
Krystal Crooks (10-8) took the loss for Southern Miss, allowing five hits and four runs, three earned, while walking two and striking out one.
In game two, DePaul took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, on a RBI double by Polansky that scored Kenney, who started the inning with a single.
DePaul added two runs in the third, on solo home runs by Sandy Vojik and Roberson.
Southern Miss made the score 3-1 in the fourth, thanks to a solo blast from Jennifer Fox, her fourth of the season.
DePaul took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of t he inning, thanks to a two-run home run by Secka.
The Lady Eagles rallied once again, getting two runs in the sixth on RBI hits from Fox and a RBI sacrifice fly by Ashley Davis, but were unable to get the winning runs to the plate.
Southern Miss had the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Blue Demons held on to win game two.
Megan Huitink (8-8) got the win for DePaul, allowing seven hits, three runs, while striking out 10.
Danielle Wymer took the loss for Southern Miss, pitching three innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, while striking out one.
On the day, Huerta finished with three hits and two RBI, while Brenan, Hammes and Fox each had two. Fox also had two RBI.
The series finale between the two teams is set for Sunday at 12 p.m. Live stats will not be available.
