Football Returns To Practice Field
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- With a little more than a week left until the annual Black and Gold Spring Game, the Southern Miss football team is entering the final stages of the 2005 spring season.
The Golden Eagles returned to the practice field for the first time since Tuesday and for the 10th time overall in the spring. The NCAA allows a maximum of 15 practice days during spring workouts.
"It was a good day," Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We had a good goal-line period at the end of the day, and there was a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. That was good."
The Golden Eagles worked for two-plus hours on the day and wrapped up the session with a period that included a controlled scrimmage. The team also will practice on Saturday and Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., and 2 p.m., respectively, with Sunday's session including the second of three scrimmage dates in the spring.
The spring practices conclude with the annual Black and Gold Spring Game, set for April 16, at 1 p.m., at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
