Softball Wins Two Over UAB
Charity Butler hit her first career home run today. |
Ashley Davis hit two home runs today, her eighth and ninth of the season, finishing the doubleheader with four hits and six RBI. |
With the wins, Southern Miss improves to 26-28 overall, 8-12 in Conference
In game one, UAB took a 1-0 lead in the second. After Kris Lara singled, she scored on a RBI triple by Dusti Roberts.
Southern Miss took the lead for good in the third. Following walks by Danielle Martin and Allison Bullard in between a fielder?s choice by Krystal Crooks, Diane Hammes connected on a three-run home run, her third of season.
UAB made the score 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a RBI double by Sara Christophel.
The Lady Eagles got that run back in the fourth on Ashley Davis? eighth home run of the season, to take a 4-2 lead.
Southern Miss added three more runs in the fifth. Crooks walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bullard. After a flyout by Hammes, Melissa Prouty walked and advanced to second after Jessica Huerta was hit by a pitch, while Crooks advanced to third. Jennifer Fox then walked, which scored Crooks.
UAB got its final run in the fifth, as Lindsay Stanley scored on a wild pitch.
Danielle Wymer (11-14) got the win for Southern Miss, allowing 10 hits and three runs, while striking out three, in pitching her 12th complete game of the season.
Jennifer Nelson took the loss for UAB, allowing seven runs on three hits, walking eight and striking out two.
In the second game, UAB took a 1-0 lead in the first, thanks to a RBI sacrifice fly by Kris Lara.

UAB added their final run of the game in the sixth inning, on a solo home run by Dusti Roberts.
Crooks (12-10) got the win for Southern Miss, allowing seven hits and two runs, while walking one, in her 16th complete game of the season.
Amanda Antonovich took the loss for UAB, allowing six hits and seven runs, while walking one and striking out one.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series at 1 p.m., on Sunday.
