Softball Wins Two By Forfeit
HATTIESBURG, Miss.? The Southern Miss softball team won two games Wednesday night in easy fashion, as Louisiana Tech was forced to forfeit both contests. Southern Miss won both games 7-0 by virtue of the forfeit.
With the wins, Southern Miss improves to 24-28, while Louisiana Tech falls to 18-40. Southern Miss has now won five games in a row.
In game one, Danielle Wymer retired the Lady Techsters in order, but the game was called after a Louisiana Tech player was unable to take the field, leaving them with only eight players. NCAA rules state that games must be played with nine players, and since there was not another available Louisiana Tech player, the game was forfeited.
There was a 40 minute waiting period for game two to begin, to see if the player would be able to play, but she could not.
?I?m very disappointed,? Head Coach Gay McNutt said. ?We needed two wins, but we wanted to play to earn them. We also needed to play these games to have some momentum heading into this weekend?s series at UAB. I?m also disappointed with the way this forfeit was handled.?
Southern Miss now travels to UAB Saturday and Sunday for an important Conference
