Softball Falls To Louisville, 8-0

LOUISVILLE, KY.? The Southern Miss softball team dropped a 8-0 decision, today, to Louisville. The two teams were set to play a doubleheader today, but inclement weather allowed only one game today, with a doubleheader set for Sunday at 12 and 2 p.m.

With the loss, Southern Miss falls to 19-19 overall, 5-5 in Conference USA. Louisville improves to 20-12, 6-1.

Louisville took a 3-0 lead in the first. With one out, Candi Hicks and Courtney Moore hit back-to-back triples, as Moore?s scored Hicks, making the score 1-0. Lacy Wood followed with a two-run home run to left field, as the Lady Cardinals took a 3-0 lead. After Lisa Estes struck out, Michelle Vasquez walked and scored on a RBI double by Sarah Totten.

The Lady Cardinals put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth. Southern Miss got two quick outs, before Vasquez tripled to right field. Totten followed with an RBI single, scoring Vasquez. Sara Bausher singled to center, advancing Totten to second. After a pitching change to Krystal Crooks, Leslie Garland walked, which loaded the bases. Audrey Rendon followed with a two-RBI single. Louisville then got the game winning run, as Moore reached on a fielding error by Charity Butler, which scored Garland.

Danielle Wymer (8-11) took the loss for Southern Miss, allowing four runs on four hits, walking one and striking out two in one inning of work. Shae Naramore had the longest outing of her career today, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing six hits, three runs and walking two.

Aja Sherman (9-7) got the win for Louisville, limiting Southern Miss to only four hits.

Butler and Sue Logan each had two hits for Southern Miss.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, with game times set for 12 and 2 p.m.
