Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Adds Two During Spring Signing Period
HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Southern Miss Head Volleyball Coach Ricci Luyties announced the signing of two players, Ednali Serralta of San Juan, Puerto Rio and Stevi Cherry of Lutz, Fla., to national letters of intent for the 2005-06 academic year.
Serralta, a 5-10 setter, played two seasons at College of Southern Idaho, where she helped her team finish 42-3 during the 2004 season. She was an honorable-mention All-Scenic West Athletic Conference. She recorded 793 assists, 34 service aces and 125 digs last season. Over the past two seasons, the Golden Eagles finished with a 91-8 record. The 2003 team finished fourth in the National Junior College Championship. She finished her career second all-time in assists at CSI and ninth in service aces.
Serralta prepped at Puerto Rico High School where she was a three-sport athlete. She was an all-star selection, named the best setter and was voted player of the year by the league coaches.
Cherry, a 5-10 outside hitter, was a three-year letterwinner for Coach Melanie Humeansky at Bayshore High School. She was a two-time 1A Player of the Year. She received first team all-state honors two straight years. She helped her team win the state championship. She was named ?Jumping Jack Outside Hitter? by Prep Volleyball.com. She led the team in kills and digs. The two-time team captain finished her career with 1,153 kills.
