Southern Miss Recognizes Student-Athletes For Excellence In Classroom
Nineteen student-athletes were named to the President?s List, which recognizes students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average on at least 12 hours of course work for a semester. There also were 45 student-athletes named to the Dean?s List, which recognizes students for a 3.25 or better on a minimum of 12 hours of course work. Eighty-four others were named to the Athletic Director?s Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average for the semester.
?Our student-athletes continue to do an outstanding job on the playing field and in the classroom," Director of Athletics Richard Giannini said. "Our 19 President's List Scholars this semester are our largest number ever in that area. We also must give credit to our Student Academic Enhancement Program personnel for the outstanding job they continue to do in helping our athletes realize their full potential in the classroom.?
Broken down by sport, the Golden Eagle football team and women?s track team led the way with 22 athletes on the list (see accompanying release for details). The soccer team finished second with 18 athletes on the list. Those sports were followed by baseball (14), volleyball and softball (9 each), women?s basketball, men?s track, and women?s golf (8), men?s tennis (5), women?s tennis (3 each), and men's basketball and men?s golf (1).
