Softball Falls Twice In Mardi Gras Classic MONROE, La.? The Lady Eagle softball team dropped two games at the Mardi Gras Classic today, falling 2-1 in eight innings to Louisiana Tech, and 4-0 to Conference USA rival Louisville. Southern Miss now stands 6-5 overall on the season. In the first game, Southern Miss fell 2-1, in eight innings to Louisiana Tech. The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Jessica Huerta scored on a throwing error by pitcher Lindsay Meadows. But Louisiana Tech (6-8) tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth, on a RBI single from Carly White. Southern Miss was unable to score the game winning run, stranding runners on base in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, before an RBI bases loaded groundout by Meadows scored the game winning run for Louisiana Tech. Krystal Crooks (4-1), suffered the first defeat of her collegiate career, but pitched her third consecutive game in three consecutive starts. She scattered nine hits and two runs, walked two and struck out four. Lin Meadows (3-5) got the win for Louisiana Tech, allowing five hits and a run, with seven strikeouts. In the second game, Huerta led off the game with a single to centerfield and advanced to second on a wild pitch. But that would be Southern Miss? only hit of the night, as Sara Bausher connected on a two-run home run in the fourth and Audrey Rendon added a RBI single in the inning, to provide Catherine Bishop (5-1) got the win for Jessica Saunier (1-3) took took the loss for Southern Miss, pitching six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, while striking out two. Southern Miss will conclude play in the Mardi Gras Classic on Sunday, with a 9:30 a.m., contest against Louisiana-Monroe.
