Lady Eagle Tennis Team Continues To Roll, Remain Undefeated

NATCHITOCHES, La. ? Southern Miss? freshman Sherry Price recorded a three-set win over Northwestern State's Catalina Villegas in the No. 2 singles and her Southern Miss teammates won tiebreakers to take first-set wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions to spark a 7-0 win over the Lady Demons in college tennis Saturday at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
?I can?t say how pleased I am with this team,? Head Coach Randy Rowley said. ?Every player came out to play today. It?s fun watching Sherry Price playing and figuring out a game plan and sticking to it. She continues to grow and mature with each match.?
Southern Miss (4-0) got a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at No. 1 when Nicola Slater defeated Anneline Zerwick. Nikhila Narra defeated Fernanda Silva at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Price beat Villegas 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Eagles swept the other singles in straight sets. Grace Kemmerer defeated Magali Van den Bergh (NSU), 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, while Ali Blackett beat Alex Nieto 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 and Jennifer Sibille swept Camila Prado 6-1, 6-4 in the sixth position.
?Our doubles? teams are playing well,? Rowley said. ?We haven?t lost a doubles? point yet.?
The Lady Eagles opened the match, winning the doubles point with three, 8-3 victories. Slater/Price beat Zerwick/Nieto at No. 1, Narra/Kammerer won over Villegas/Silva at No.2 and Blackett/Sibille took the No. 3 match over Van den Bergh and Marcia Alcantara.
