Shawn Nelson Named Southern Miss Student Athlete of the Week

Named the New Orleans Bowl MVP when he finished with a career-high six catches for 121 yards and scored two touchdowns, an average of 20.2 yards per catch ... He had a long catch of 37 yards on the first play of the game. He also had catches of 21, 11, 29, 6 and 17 yards and his touchdown catches were 29 and six yards.

For the season, Nelson, a two-time Freshman All-American, led the Golden Eagles with 35 catches for 540 yards, an average of 15.4 yards per catch and scored five touchdowns. That marked the best season by a tight end in the school's history. He also had a long catch of 63 yards on a touchdown catch against Tulane.
