Football Holds Friday Night Bowl Preparation Practice

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team held a Friday night practice tonight, as preparations continue for Tuesday's New Orleans Bowl at Lafayette.
"We're in good shape," Head Coach Jeff Bower said. "We're excited about heading to Lafayette on Saturday."
Bower said following practice that all the players who are expected to travel to Lafayette, will travel to the bowl game.
The team will practice on Sunday and Monday in Lafayette, before meeting Arkansas State at 7 p.m., on Tuesday. Southern Miss and Arkansas State will meet for the ninth time on Tuesday, with Southern Miss holding a 6-2 series lead. Southern Miss has won the past three meetings, including the last meeting, winning 35-0 in Hattiesburg in 1980.
The team will depart Hattiesburg shortly after 12 p.m., on Saturday. A send-off rally will be held in front of the Athletic Center as the team departs. All fans are encouraged to attend and cheer the team as it departs for Lafayette.
Southern Miss finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA this season. The team will meet Arkansas State in New Orleans Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., CT. It will be the Southern Miss' eighth bowl game in the past nine years, and will be the fourth consecutive bowl appearance. The 6-5 record also is the 12th straight winning season for the Golden Eagles, who is one of only seven schools that have achieved the mark. Arkansas State will be making a bowl appearance for the first time as a Division I-A football program.
