Football Continues New Orleans Bowl Preparations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team continued preparations for Arkansas State, the team's opponent in the New Orleans Bowl at Lafayette, La., on Dec. 20 today, with a two-hour practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The team did conditioning work on Monday and Tuesday, after having last week off, before working on fundamentals and technique, while beginning basic preparations for Arkansas State on Wednesday and Thursday.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said practice for the bowl game has gone well.
"Our preparations have been good," Bower said. "We worked on fundamentals and on some base looks against Arkansas State. We'll really get to work on Monday. Our staff will work a full day on Sunday and finalize our game plan. We'll go full speed ahead on Monday."
The players begin exams on Monday, as the semester comes to a close. To work around the exam schedule, the team will practice Monday and Tuesday, take Wednesday off, before practicing Thursday and Friday night. On Saturday, the team will depart for Lafayette, La., for the New Orleans Bowl.
Southern Miss finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA this season. The team will meet Arkansas State in New Orleans Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m., CT. It will be the Southern Miss' eighth bowl game in the past nine years, and will be the fourth consecutive bowl appearance. The 6-5 record also is the 12th straight winning season for the Golden Eagles, who is one of only seven schools that have achieved the mark.
