Football Begins Memphis Preparations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team hit the practice field today, beginning preparations for Saturday's 7:30 p.m., contest against Memphis, with a two-hour practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles return to a regular game week this week, after playing two games last week, Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Marshall and Sunday, Nov. 13. The team also returns home this weekend, following a 2-2 showing on a four game road stretch.
Saturday's game marks the 56th meeting between the two schools, in a game that has become called the "Black and Blue" game.
Southern Miss (5-4 overall, 4-2 in Conference USA) holds a 36-18-1 series advantage, winning the past 13 meetings in Hattiesburg. In the series history, the two schools have met 19 times in Hattiesburg, with Southern Miss winning 18 times. Memphis' lone victory in Hattiesburg came in 1960, a 7-6 win. The Golden Eagles have won nine of the last 11 meetings in the series.
Head Coach Jeff Bower said following practice that senior defensive back John Eubanks returned to the practice field today, while junior defensive back Caleb Hendrix (mild concussion) was held out of practice today.
Saturday's game will be televised on CSTV and kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
