Softball Wins Two, Ties Once In Fall Tournament
?I thought the team played well today,? Southern Miss Head Coach Gay McNutt said. ?I?m not disappointed with anything. I think we?re onto something good so far this season. Our defense made some great plays today and our pitchers threw well. Our bats aren?t quite where they need to be yet, but it is early.?
The Lady Eagles opened their morning with a 8-0 victory over William Carey. In the first inning, the team took a 2-0 lead. With one out, Allison Bullard singled and scored on a throwing error by Carey third baseman Megan Dawson. Then with the bases loaded, Melissa Prouty got hit by a pitch, which scored pinch runner Cindy Hayes.
Carey threatened in the second, but left the bases loaded.
Southern Miss made the score 3-0 in the third. Jessica Huerta led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored on a RBI single by Ashley Davis.
In the fourth, Charity Butler tripled to centerfield, scoring Ashley Breland and Nicole Chisolm who doubled and singled to start the inning.
Carey threatened to score in the fifth, but again left the bases loaded.
